Who are we?

We are NOC Innovations Ltd (NOCI), the trading subsidiary of the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), the UK's centre of excellence for oceanographic sciences. NOC is a national research organisation, delivering integrated marine science and technology from the coast to the deep ocean.

We are made up of a dynamic and vibrant community whose focus is on improving the world in which we live. Our work is balanced by our strong sense of purpose, values and behaviours and an unwavering commitment to a ‘one NOC’ approach.

About the role

The Marine Information Products and Services (MIPS) is a well-established team in NOCI, which develops and sells tidal prediction software including Poltips (Coastal tide predictions), Polpred (Offshore water elevation and current predictions) and TASK (Tidal harmonic analysis package used to parameterise observations of sea levels and currents).

This software has historically been desktop Windows based but more recently we have started to offer software as a cloud service and are looking to add new exciting product features and ocean data layers from NOC, beyond just tides to generate additional revenues. This role will be leading a small team tasked with the upkeep and development of our cloud-based commercial software offering as well as actively contributing to coding and software development effort.

About you

You are an experienced full stack or back-end cloud developer looking for a role leading a small team of where you have autonomy and feel ownership of the products you develop. You will thrive on ability to develop new products and features contributing to the product design and evolution with new ideas and solutions. You will have experience of AGILE working and the ability to apply this knowledge appropriately within a smaller team. If you do not currently possess any knowledge of tidal science, you will be keen to learn those aspects with training and support to integrate scientific algorithms into the software accurately and provide knowledge and support to customers on tidal matters. You will become comfortable and confident in taking responsibility for the accuracy, efficiency, and robustness of the software and, over time, become expert in its application.

You will contribute to team ethos of the wider software development community at NOC and be comfortable working with other developers, marine scientists and commercial staff utilizing customer feedback and NOC expertise to further enhance our software and make it better.

Why the NOC?

We offer a generous set of benefits including 28 days annual leave, plus 3.5 local closure days and 8 public bank holidays, and a contributory Group Personal Pension Plan.
