Mission Network Leads

Overview

NOC is creating four new senior roles, the Mission Network Leads.

There are four Missions in the NOC Strategy (launching October 2025) and delivery will be achieved via a flexible and multi-disciplinary Network of people from across NOC Functions.

The four missions, each to be delivered by a new Network, are:

  • Climate – Society can plan for, adapt to & mitigate against environmental change

  • Biodiversity – Marine biodiversity is protected and thrives

  • Hazards and Pollution – People, infrastructure and ecosystems are protected

  • Sustainable Marine Economy – Marine-based economic activity is sustainably developed whilst protecting the ocean’s future health

What is a network?

Networks form connections between individuals no matter where they sit in the management structure.

A Network will bring together people with differing expertise to address multi-faceted challenges through a programme or portfolio of projects. Individuals join or switch between networks when a project or programme takes them into that area of science

The role-holder will have 0.5 FTE per year of time in which to perform the role. They will therefore be expected to continue their activities as a researcher in parallel to carrying out the Mission Network role.

Considering your application

Expressions of interest are invited from staff who are working at Band 3. We also encourage expressions of interest from staff who are working at Band 4 and who have skills and experience to demonstrate their ability to work at Band 3 now or within 2-3 years.

We particularly encourage applications from women and non-binary staff, with the intention to achieve balanced gender representation in our senior team and future Executive Team.

There is an opportunity for the roles to operate as a role-share, meaning that one role could be delivered by two people working together. If you are interested in role-share opportunities, then please state that in your Expression of Interest form.

If you would like to discuss the role and opportunities, please contact Prof. N. Penny Holliday (Chief Scientific Officer).
